After a lengthy respite since Rounds 6 & 7 of the 2021 QUAIFE Mini Challenge UK Trophy season at Brands Hatch Indy, the championship now travels to Cheshire, as Oulton Park International hosts the next two rounds this coming Saturday (July 24th).

Brackley’s Louie Capozzoli would showcase both his racing skills and sheer bravado at the 1.2-mile circuit in Kent, picking up his best qualifying session and race result of the season.

This was before almost taking his maiden race victory of the year, where drama and a combination of inexperience saw him go off track, but a cool head saw the 18-year-old bring the car to the finish in seventh.

Now with the focus being towards the 2.692-mile circuit based in Cheshire, the LDR Performance Tuning driver will have to learn quickly to get himself in the mix.

From that track day, it is a very technical track unlike certain circuits, such as Thruxton and others on the calendar. This is not a slipstream or tow-dependent track, more a case of how you can hook it up,” said the Silverstone UTC student about his first impressions during a test day back in April, and is under no illusions that it will be easy.

It means that it is going to be even more difficult for me, due to there being so many good drivers on the grid. Just to get the car hooked up is really difficult, but the track is brilliant and it is one that I have really been looking forward to.”

He has also recently passed his driving test, and has found it to be a refreshing and liberating experience to also be safe out on the road.

“It was a long time coming, and due to the pandemic, I couldn’t quite get it done. But now having passed, it is that sense of freedom, being able to get out and about. I even went as far as to offer to drive here. Gives me a great sense of freedom both off and on track.”

Capozzoli also admits that he does not occupy his mind with getting too deep into thinking about the race weekend, in terms of results, but he has an approach that helps him perform at his best.

I look at every weekend as a fresh one, keep myself as level-headed as possible. I don’t think that because I did well last time out, that it means the same for this one.

“I tend to look at things like the factor of it being a new track, so going straight into qualifying without testing, it is always going to be a challenge. Not for one second do I actually think that it will be an easy run, and it could be a tough ask for me to pull something out of the bag.”

The multi-time kart champion in the Junior and Senior X30 classes also knows that he has the ability to show those close to him that he can perform well in both qualifying and in the races, having proven that already this year.

A big thanks goes to Boss Cleaning, who have supported this promising young racer with a set of race tyres for this weekend in Cheshire – we’ll clean up on your behalf!

To have had fans back at Brands was extremely important for me, as it gives you that buzz. For Boss Cleaning to come on board as a sponsor, it is a real push for us and gave us a sense of confidence,” said Louie.

It also gave us a feeling that we can go forward from here, especially when other people try to help – it gives me a warm feeling when that happens. This means we know that we are not fighting on our own.
